Lazy day around Hout Bay

Everyone has now got a better idea of the geography of the area so some couples decided to venture off on their own today, either down into Hout Bay or to explore the Camps Bay Area, while we opted for a quiet relaxing day at home. All was going really well until about 4pm when a crew of tree fellers turned up to take down the dead conifer tree from the verge on Broughton Close, just by our deck and garden. The total absence of health and safety precautions was unbelievable, the tree was at my guess at least 40ft high, and the man who climbed the tree to take off the branches and eventually take down the trunk (in only two lengths!) had no safety harness, just a rope which he secured round the tree and round his waist. He also had his chain saw, also secured by rope, which he left running while he tied the rope round whichever branch was the next to come down. After watching through my fingers for a while it became addictive viewing – the strengt and skill of these workmen was incredible. Unfortunately this activity put an end to our relaxing afternoon as we were all quickly showered in sawdust and the noise of the chain saws was so loud! We all went to Kitima this evening, this was high on Karen and Geoff’s to do list, and met Lawrence and Amanda so we all enjoyed another very sociable dinner together, ending with Dom Pedro’s to round the meal off. Luckily Home Heroes were booked (again) to drive us home, just as well really!
