This is not a plea – just a statement.  They’ve all gone now.  Debi and Ed pushed off mid morning on Friday, and had an easy journey back to Manchester, and a less easy one from there to Sheffield, but I guess travelling on Friday afternoon…..

Anyway, once we’d got shut of them, the rest of us headed off to the Krka National Park, Roski Slap where we could marvel at lush vegetation, and some damn fine waterfalls.  It was a lovely day; the journey there took about an hour, but with fantastic views on the way.  Debi and Ed had done it before us, so gave us tips on which bits to do first to avoid the crowds which proved very helpful.

Before lunch we climbed the 500+ steps to a prehistoric cave.  It was really hot, so we were all perspiring somewhat when we arrived, but once again the views made the whole exercise worthwhile. The cave was also an added bonus as it was blissfully cool; it almost felt like it was air conditioned!

Picnic

A picnic lunch by a burbling stream followed before we set off in the car once more and headed to Skradin to see the Krka Waterfalls.  This involved parking up and taking a 20 minute boat ride to Skradinski Buk to the falls themselves – all included in the price of entering the park.  The photos speak for themselves!  It is a really beautiful setting, and we spent a very pleasant couple of hours wandering around, and taking loads of photos. Rob even ventured in for a paddle!

Gorgeous view!

We caught the boat back, and then drove back to the site, showered and popped out for a late dinner to a beachside restaurant that Karol and I had tried and enjoyed on our first night.  If anything the food this time was even better, and because it was quite quiet we got great service from the chatty waiter.  He told us that the Croatian schools break up mid June, and that in the height of the season this little restaurant will cater for 1,000 covers in a single evening!  For the record, we were the only customers at 9.30 p.m. on a Friday!  However, it did make us think that perhaps the coming weeks were going to be much busier than we were used to.

Saturday was the day Ros and Rob returned to the UK, so we provided a late breakfast and lunch before taking first Ros, and later Rob to the airport.

The site had been particularly busy during the day, and we discovered that this weekend is the start of the Bavarian annual two week holiday, for adults and kids alike.  Croatia is pretty close to Bavaria, so we had a big influx of Germans throughout the day.  This also impacted on the airport which was quite busy when we dropped Ros off, but much busier still when we dropped Rob at around 8.15 p.m for his Norwegian Airways flight to Gatwick.  Because the flight landed at Gatwick quite late we’d decided that it would be easier if he booked an airport taxi to take him home rather than relying on trains – I’m so glad we did. The flight was half an hour late taking off at around 11.00 p.m. but whilst they were in the air there was the terrorist incident on London Bridge involving the van being driven at pedestrians, followed by random knife attacks.  As a result South London was off limits, and whilst the taxi was half an hour late arriving, at least Rob had a certain ride home, albeit clockwise round the M25! He eventually got home at 2.30 a.m. and was working a 12 hour shift from 9.00 a.m. the next day.  Thanks goodness he’s a youngster eh?

Today has been a bit odd, with it just being the two of us, so we’ve kept busy doing chores – washing, cleaning the car, getting a hair cut (best yet!) and planning our next stages.  We think it will be too hot for us to stay all summer in Southern Europe, so are planning our move northwards from the middle of June.  Nothing is fixed, but we both feel more comfortable that we now have a plan!

Can I book an appointment with Karol when you get back? Is it cheaper for the over 60s?
