Ladies Spa Afernoon and Lads Wine Tasting

One of the ‘main events’ for the lads holiday was to be a day out at sea, fishing for tuna. Unfortunately so far the weather hasn’t been suitable as it has been incredibly windy – not what you want when you’re 50k out at sea. A period of 5 days was allocated in the hope that one day the wind would be calm enough for them to go – this made it difficult for us to plan other things, so to make sure we ladies didn’t miss out we booked a spa afternoon (not weather dependent!) in the swanky Westin Hotel in Cape Town. We set off around 11, picked up Amanda, and drove (with a lot of navigational help from Amanda and patience from the other ladies) through an incredibly busy Cape Town and eventually managed to park and walk into the hotel. Our spa package included a two course lunch which was served in the restaurant on the 19th floor, the top floor of the tallest building in the city, so the views were amazing. Lunch was great, and then we went for our pampering sessions – fantastic and so relaxing. We could also use the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, so we were all very chilled before we fought our way back to Hout Bay in the rush hour traffic. We arrived back to an empty house, the boys had improvised for their ‘free’ day and gone wine tasting – it was very obvious when they rolled back home that they’d also had a very good day! As the girls were booked out for the day we decided on an impromptu wine tasting. We visited Eagle’s Nest, a local wine farm in Constantia. This was less impressive than I remember, but got us in the mood for more. We’d booked a late lunch at Steenburg, another larger wine farm and golf estate on the outskirts of Tokai just a few miles away, so we decided to do a wine tasting there too. This proved to be an inspired choice as the wines were terrific and the young lady serving us very memorable indeed. Phil kept asking her more involved questions just so he could keep her attention for a bit longer! Richard also discovered his favourite wine of the holiday in their Sauvignon Blanc. Lawrence joined us as we were finishing up, so we all went and had a wonderful lunch, along with a couple of bottles of Steenburg’s wonderful wines. You can see where this is going can’t you? We finished lunch towards 5 o’clock and got Home Heroes to pick us up. However Lawrence wasn’t finished with us – he got Home Heroes to drop us off at La Parada, a new pub conveniently on the way home. We had a few pints here before Home Heroes took us back o Hout Bay to meet up with the ladies once more. I suspect they didn’t get much sense out of us!
