The ‘not so’ Fantastica!

Our previous ferry journeys had led us to expect comfortable accommodation, good food and facilities. Sadly the inaccurately named Fantastica’ wasn’t! It was rubbish; dirty, run down, poor food and indifferent service. It was also late!

Our first view of Genoa
Looney Tunes ferries!

We eventually docked in Genoa around 90 minutes later than advertised, so didn’t get to our chosen site until almost seven in the evening.

Things picked up after that though.  the people on the site were great, and whilst it was another ‘no toilet seat/paper’ location, it was clean and very well organised.  We had a slight blip with the electricity, but the hostess explained that the connection I’d used was only 3 amp (!) so let us connect to one which was 6 amp instead.  For those who are ignorant of these things (and I admit that I was one of those until we came away) the minimum we’ve had anywhere has been 6 amp and that only allows you to run 1.5 k.w. (e.g. a toaster) before tripping, so quite what they expected us to do with 3 amp other than charge one phone I don’t know!

After a short exploration on the bikes before it got dark, we decided to eat in the site’s cafe/restaurant. Good call! the guy running it was a real character, and we had a bit of fun with him when it came to the language as we were still tuned into Spanish, so he took the mickey out of us for a bit, and then taught us some Italian.  Predictably I’ve forgotten it all, and Karol’s remembered it.  It was ever thus!

Sunset on our short bike ride

We both had pasta, and a bottle of red which he recommended and it was all delicious!  The best pasta we’ve both had for ages.  Suitably sated, we retired home to bed in preparation of moving on to Bologna tomorrow.

Oh heck! I’m glad you found it guys! Enjoy your travels too! The caravan is our home now, so we’ll probably end up parking it on the drive and living in it when we get back!

  2. Glad you’ve found a way to continue the blog despite the other site closing down – it’s been great travelling through Spain with you and I’m looking forward to reading all about your Italian adventures! Gill xx

Thanks Gill! Great to hear from you. We’re still getting used to the new format, but at last we know it’s under our control now! We could do with your language skills! Grant & Karol xx

  3. Pleased that you have found a way to continue your travelogue (hate blog). Some of the architecture is remarkable, it’s whetted our appetite and a trip to northern Italy is certainly on the agenda. The 4 of us from KJGS, plus Linda, are planning to have an annual birthday getaway.

Thanks Graham – assume you mean the building architecture and not the web site’s!
