Friday we’d earmarked to return to Sagres for a day on the deserted beach, as the forecast was good once again. We did indeed have a super day on the beach, but it was far from deserted – in fact it was littered with surfers, both experienced and beginners, who were shadowed by their surfing teachers shouting encouragement.

When we’d been here in Wednesday the surfers had all been in the other bay – clearly the surf was up on this bay today so they were all here instead. However It made for a very interesting day watching them all until we had to vacate due to the tide coming in!

However, it was late afternoon by now, so we had a pleasant drive home via the supermarket for a cooked chicken for tea. A very lazy day! Saturday we headed into Lagos for a walk around, and again had a pleasant if uneventful day, stopping for coffee and taking in the sights. We did however see some storks nesting on an industrial chimney and a pylon, as well as the usual tourist sights!

We adjourned to the caravan mid afternoon having stocked up on the local red at the supermarket on the way back, to find that we had new neighbours in an Airstream caravan – for the uninitiated these are the retro looking American aluminium caravans which are small but beautifully formed. However, the neighbours had titivated their pitch with a couple of plastic flamingoes which I just had to photograph for you. Classy or what?

Airstream flamingos!

That evening we headed back to Leo’s for a farewell dinner, where we again shared a table with Jim and Cathy, and once more a good time was had by all. Sunday we set off for Cadiz bright and early at 9 in the morning.
